It is easy to describe success in terms of money, fame and reputation. But I believe that success is not external. I believe that success comes from within. My definition of success is to be true to yourself, and be true to others. That means, that you must cherish your personal ideal even in the face of adversity. I also believe that success is not discriminatory. Success is not restricted to such a class of people, in fact, it may be achieved by any person irrespective of his race, creed, gender and economic background. A good example of success is that of Beethoven. He is one of the world's most famous composers, yet he was deaf. He could not hear the majestic pieces of music that he created. Yet, in the face of this adversity, he was able to maintain his ideals--that of composing music.

To exemplify what success means to me, I pose a question to all of you. What brings us together here today? I believe that it is the beauty of the spoken word. The effect of pause and the sound of rhetoric are unique to the spoken word. I believe the beauty of the spoken word is even stronger for those who have difficulty in expressing themselves.

These people are reclusive and had their emotions hidden within them. I once went to Australia and I saw two pictures, Once was drawn by a normal child, the other was drawn by a child with social inhibitions. The picture drawn by the normal child was simple and plain. The other was life-like, full of details and imagination. What this shows is that these are ideas, emotions and feelings that are locked internally in thesechildren.

My ideal is to be the key, spreading the beauty of the spoken words to these children. These children have been neglected, but I feel that I can and should help these children to find themselves and be able to express themselves.

I realize that this is a difficult task, and there are many obstacles on the way. But I believe in my ideals and I will stick to them--even in the face of adversity. We should never have a premature abortion of ideals--let the child, let our ideals, stand the challenge. For a life without ideals is not living.

Therefore, I believe that we should never give up.

One reason is that if we give up too easily, we will rarely achieve anything. It is not unusual for us to fail in our first attempt at something new, so we should not feel discouraged and should try again. Besides, if we always give up when we fail, we will not be able to develop new skills and grow as people. Another reason we should never give up is that we can learn from our mistakes only if we make a new effort. If we do not try again, the lesson we have learned is wasted. Finally, we should never give up because as we work to reach our goals, we develop confidence, and this confidence can help us succeed in other areas of our lives.

Probably the greatest example of persistence is Abraham Lincoln. Born into poverty, Lincoln was faced with defeat throughout his life. He lost eight elections, twice failed in business and suffered a nervous breakdown.

He could have quit many times - but he didn't and because he didn't quit, he became one of the greatest presidents in the history of our country.

Lincoln was a champion and he never gave up.

we have also come to this hallowed spot to remind america of the fierce urgency of now. this is no time to engage in the luxury of cooling off or to take the tranquilizing drug of gradualism. now is the time to rise from the dark and desolate valley of segregation to the sunlit path of racial justice. now is the time to open the doors of opportunity to all of god's children. now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood.

I have always admired the long healthy life my grandparents have。 They are older than 80 years of age and they are still alive and kicking! How do they do that!? My grandparents plant vegetables and grow rice themselves; even in their old age they still make food for themselves! I guess that is why they can remain healthy。 More importantly they remain humble and never ask for too much from life。 Perhaps that makes them mon， but they live a happy life。 My grandmother once told me this:” I do not want to live long， only long enough for some grand children to be running around in my house”。 I want to live a long， healthy and happy life just as they have。

Since my graduation from primary school， until now， every time on my birthday I make the same wish。 I wish my parents will not fight anymore。 I am not plaining that they gave me a bad childhood， they just fight so much! I am unhappy but that does not mean they do not love me。 They do! They love me with all their heart。 I love my parents also; I want them to live a happy life as well。

I want to travel this great country of ours。 I want to see the beauty of our country。 I want to see the miracles that made this country great! I want to go from the east to west， from the north all the way down to the south! I have a dream， that one day I can travel and see my country with my family and friends! True love is acceptance, committal, mutual and without any post conditions. The love between Lin daiyu and Jia baoyu is considered to be True Love. Just saying or hearing I love you is not good enough because talk is cheap. Action in mutual commitment is essential, as we can see in the novel.

We always have dreams. What’s ours dream? Do you know what you exactly want? And do you work hard for it. In this book, you can taste the feeling of the author about his strong will. In his words, you can find the charm of Chinese. It is not a book, but a precious deposits. You can get a lot from it. But unfortunately, the novel was never "completed" to such a state. however, in this fast-developing modern society, the reality is not that. more and more people forget to enjoy the beauty of life and -the beauty of friendship. they work hard in order to gain a higher position, in the society and to earn more money for their work. of course, we don't deny that it is important to find a bet-ter place in our lives, but we wish more and more people could pay a little more attention to themselves and their friends. all of us have to spare some time for personal lives. we have to find the chance to express our emotion and love. when staying with our friends, we can release ourselves completely. we can do whatever we want, we can laugh together, talk together, and even cry to-gether. i should say that being together with our best friends is the most wonderful moment of our lives.

Once upon a time, a weenie ant was walking on his way. As he was walking, suddenly he felt the ground shaking terribly. He looked around with his paranoid eyes and saw an elephant walking right behind him. Quickly, the little ant covered himself with dirt, but one leg was unfortunately left out. A sparrow saw everything, so she flew down with the purpose of teasing the ant: “Hey, chicken! Watch out your leg, it’s out!” The ant felt embarrassed at first but then calmly responded: “ Shi…I am going to trip that elephant.”

Right now, I’m standing on this glamorous stage. But everything here reminds me of is a not so fun memory. Around this time last year I was in Nanjing competing in another speech contest. That was the first time for me to be in such a large event. Of course the pressure I was under was immense too. After a sleepless and stressful night, I went onto that stage without the feeling in my legs. That speech turned out to be horrible. I don’t remember how I get down from there, but I do remember afterwards I just wanted to find a hole to hide in just like the ant in the story. Back at my school, it took a long time for me to recover. Thanks to all the help I got from my special friends. My confidence was restored. After rounds of giving speeches and answering tough questions, I am here today. From all that I’ve been through I’ve learned that a good future is based on a forgotten past, if I want my life to go on well I have to let go of my past failure. So today, with out fear, I am tripping my elephant again.

今天，我站在这个讲台上。但周围的一切让我想到的却并不是一段有趣的回忆。大概是去年的这个时间，我在南京参加另一个全国英语演讲比赛。那是我第一次参加大赛，当然压力非常大。经过压抑无眠的一整夜，我走上了演讲台。那时我有史以来最差的一次演讲。我不记得自己怎么从讲台上走下来的，只记得当时很想找一个地方躲进去再也不出来就想我故事中的蚂蚁。回到学校，我花了好一段时间才恢复过来。幸好有朋友和老师的鼓励，我又一次有了勇气和信心。经过一轮又一轮的演讲和回答问题，我今天站在了这里。让也我领悟了一个道理：一个好的将来是建立在忘掉过去的基础上的，直到真正忘记过去的失败生活才会变的美好。今天，我没有惧怕，又一次站到了大象的面前。

I have a dream today.

I have a dream that one day every vally shall be exalted, every hill and mountain shall be made low, the rough places will be made plain, and the crooked places will be made straight, and the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together.

Wow, what a dream it has been for Martin Luther King. But the changing world seems telling me that people gradually get their dreams lost somehow in the process of growing up, and sometimes I personally find myself saying goodbye unconsciously to those distant childhood dreams.

However, we meed dreams. They nourish our spirit; they represent possibility even when we are dragged down by reality. They keep us going. Most successful people are dreamers as well as ordinary people who are not afraid to think big and dare to be great. When we were little kids, we all dreamed of doing something big and splashy, something significant. Now what we need to do is to maintain them, refresh them and turn them into reality. However, the toughest part is that we often have no ideas how to translate these dreams into actions. Well, just start with concrete objectives and stick to it. Don’t let the nameless fear confuse the eye and confound our strong belief of future. Through our talents, through our wits, through our endurance and through our creativity, we will make it.

Hold fast to dreams, for if dreams die, life is a broken-winged bird that cannot fly. Hold fast to dreams, for when dreams go, life is a barren field frozen with snow. So my dear friends, think of your old and maybe dead dreams. Whatever it is, pick it up and make it alive from today.

美国少年天使肯尼，一出生就因为身体畸形截掉双腿，后来又发现切口的根部被癌细胞侵入，只好把腰部以下的身体全部切除。但是，肯尼并没有向病魔低头，他在家人的帮助下向自己的生命挑战，拼命练习生存技能，使得自己日渐独立，能跟常人一样上学，甚至还学会了溜滑板、溜冰。肯尼的生命是美丽的、动人的。

有时我们认为遇到的危机使我们感到绝望，但后来我们发现这是生活的转折点。生命之美在于勇于更新，勇于努力学习。只有把蛹变成蝴蝶，生命才能焕然一新。

人的一生也需要蜕变才能成长。每一次转变都回把你带入一个新的生活领域和境界，让你得到新的感受和惊喜。

健康的我们应该学会容忍自己的缺点。俗话说人无完人。因此，我们应该不断地学习和提高自己。

如何在正视缺点的前提下，采取积极的行动来弥补和克服缺点？一方面要正确和别人做比较，认识到自己在群体中处于什么样的位置，寻找以后努力的方向；另一方面要正确认识自己。不要只从不同的方面平价自己，却看不到自己的优点，老觉得“某某的学习比我好，某某的书法比我好，某某的琴比我弹得好”，而实际上每个人身上都有自己的闪光点：

学习好的可能体育不如你，书法好的可能学习不如你，不要一味给自己挑毛病。既能够看到闪光点，也能够看到不足之处，对自己的认识才会全面，才能更好的取长补短。

琼瑶是台湾著名作家，除了小时候的中文，其他科目都不太好。有一次，数学考试她只考了20分，学校发给她一张“通知单”，要她拿回去给父母盖章。在深夜，她鼓起勇气将通知送给母亲。

驻军来了，但科学家们说，这是苏联未来的种子和希望。驻守部队撤退了。

在前线浴血奋战的将军也来了。他要求把所有的食物都交给军队，但科学家们说这是一种种子，不能吃。将军大发雷霆，但科学家告诉他：当我们打败德国人时，农民们可以用这些种子过上幸福的生活。

将军听了，向那位科学家敬礼，然后带领士兵们离开。
